What fantastic news: again we received a 'Good' in all areas for our ofsted inspection. Over the last 10 years a lot has changed for Jigsaws and the way that ofsted carry out it's inspections. Throughout all these changes we have consistently attained a GOOD which we are so proud of. A big thank you to all our hard working staff, supportive parents and wonderful children.
Boys Writing Project
A big thank you to all who gave me permission to use your children for this study. The study was in coordination with York University and focussed on finding out why there is a gap between boys ability in writing and girls of the same age. This is something I have noticed both during my time as a teacher in school and teaching here in the early years. The project ran for a year and these are our key findings:
Boys arm development takes longer as they need to build shoulder muscles
Boys need a reason to draw and write
Drawing is equally important to writing
Boys need big paper to draw on.
As a setting we have put things in place as a result of these findings and I am happy to report that at the beginning of the project 22.22% of our boys were working below their age and now this has reduced to 3.85%.
